I've never posted in here before so please be nice!

My horse has plenty of weight on but all in the wrong places! He has a fairly poor top line and always looks to have a fat belly! He's been at my mums for years and probably wasn't getting the "good" excercise needed, however I now have him with me and am trying to do my best at "correct" schooling to help improve top line.

I'm still a bit confused about what to feed him though!! He's in about 12 hours a day with good quality haylege and out the rest of the time in modest, small paddock.

Work load this week (typical) consisted of:
Monday - 20 min schooling, 20 mins walk/trot hack
Tuesday - 1 hour hack with lots of trotting and cantering
Wednesday - 20 mins schooling
Thursday - 40 min hack with lots of trotting and cantering
Friday - play around XC/SJ
Saturday - Day off
Sunday - Same as tuesday.

He's 16.3 (full up) ISH. Would say quite a good doer in summer, poor doer in winter.

What would you be feeding him? Obviously trial and error but he's just been turned out before he came down with me so I'm not sure...

Any advise would be fab!

He's in light work, so I would only be feeding something like Fast Fibre, Speedi-beet or a non sugar chaff ( Top Chop Lite for instance) and a multi vitamin/and or supplements.

If you feel he needs more energy, then up his workload before you feed anything else, and then I would add oil

Do lots of hill work to get a good topline, working long and low!

Good luck, he's lovely

I would try baileys lo-cal or something similar. then you know he is getting all the vits and mins he needs, as previous post then add in accordingly if you feel he needs energy.
Good luck he looks lovely :)
