Has anyone experienced this? Islay is regurgitating mildly almost every day now - I've googled it, and it is definitely not vomiting as she doesn't 'heave' at all. One minute she is lying there flat out on her side (always her right side) then suddenly she will produce a little bit of food and some clear liquid. It is never much at all, and doesn't appear to distress her at all (although it distresses the boyfriend quite a lot lol!) - she isn't looking great at the moment as she is moulting and is also a bit light in weight so I have swapped her back to raw food to sort that out.

I am quite happy to take her to the vet, but am not sure what he could do - she is 14 in July, I am very very reluctant to put her through any anaesthetic for scans or x-rays as I am not convinced the benefit would outweigh the potential risk and impact on her?

Maybe talk to your vet about something to help her stomach. Like ranitidine or something. I understand about her age etc but I'm sure your vet could advise trying something simple before doing anything drastic.

Thanks Sandstone I haven't heard of that before - I will definitely take her down if there is something unintrusive that can be done for her :)

It's to help digestion a bit like gavisgon. Think you can get it from the chemist. Would talk to vet though. It could be lots of things but with her age it's worth looking at the simple things first.

My nearly 14 year old has runs of days like this. I removed tripe from his diet-that comes back up almost immediately and pizzles sometimes cause it too. No heaving, just straight back up. I think age has left his digestion less tolerant so I've eliminated anything difficult to process. I added Pepto-Bismol (cos I had it in the house) when he first did this and it resolved the problem when he seemed to be in a habit of doing it for days. Kaolin (child version) from the chemist is also helpful.

Thanks CT that is really helpful as well - I remember always giving dogs with upset stomachs kaolin and morphine, so that makes total sense :)

Get the one without morphine, it's really bad for dogs and most chemists no longer stock it, probably due to elf 'n' safety :rolleyes3: My local chemist still does it, weirdly.

We have an ace chemist in the town/village so hopefully they will have some :) :)

ETA - that is town/village because it claims to be a town but actually for me it is like a village :D

We were in your neck of the woods scoping some seriously fine houses. The metropolis of Kington featured! A strangely large number of pubs for the size of the village.

Some dogs lose a bit of muscle tone in the oesophagus as they get older...it stretches and weakens at the entrance to the stomach, so some food can be trapped in the oesophagus and comes back up again very easily. Feeding smaller amounts at one time from a raised bowl may help.

Thank you CG that is also VERY helpful and interesting - will try that too, anything to help :)

Kington is in Foreign Parts I'll have you know, it's Over The Border :D it is very nice round there - lots of breweries:)

Kington's on the English side!

Second the riaised bowl, one of the parents in law's springers had reflux and his food was all blended too.

LOL I meant I am in Gloucestershire not Herefordshire CT :) :) Islay is going to the vets tomorrow just to be sure - I selected my tame vet who is realistic about what I will and won't do for her, bless him! :) Hoping that it will be Kaolin, raised bowl and 2 meals a day as a practical solution for her age :)

Gotcha. I reckon property is cheaper Herford way. Saw a cracking property within budget with stabling, land, amazing hacking. Just need to wait another few years....

Hope Islay stops chucking, mine goes through phases, nothing for ages, fingers crossed. Don't get kaolin from the vet, it's tons cheaper over the counter.
