Passport is Chestnut.
One of my friends is convinced she is bay, another liver chestnut...
Any others to throw in there? I'd say just chestnut but her mane and tail are very dark, lighter chestnut at base of tail but then almost black?

Very interesting colour, but as there is no black on the legs (ignore white sock), ear tips or dark muzzle - I'd go with chestnut 100%.

You have to remember that for the base colour there is only two choises chestnut and black. Everything else is caused by other genes. For example, bay is caused by agouti, which fades the body colour of a black horse to brown (many different shades possible of course ;) ).

That's really interesting - I was pondering that on a hack the other day - what the agouti equivalent in horses is - didn't think it was roan because that is not common and agouti animals is often the sort of base line colour.

Now I know..

My mare is similar...many vets couldn't make their mind up...they settled on 'brown' as she gets highlights in her mane! Some said liver chestnut, some said bay....depends what time of year it is!

Glad to help. :)

Chestnuts can carry the agouti gene, but it doesn't change the way they look as it only works on black based coats.

ETA, Parker, can we see a photo please? :D
