My friend and I are currently looking after another liveries horse... his droppings have been rather loose (no formed "pellets") and we aren't sure whether to worry. It could be a few things - 3 weeks ago (some of you may have read) his field mate died .... and he has also moved fields.
Do you think it could be a combination of that? xx

How long ago did he move fields? If fairly recently then that could be why he's loose. Is it runny runny or just loose? If really runny then I think I would be inclined to call the vet.

Is the horse in a field with another horse? How long is the grass? Both can have an impact on digestion. My horse is loose when he changes fields or has access to grass.

I would try pro and prebiotics and see how he is. Is he drinking? He is at risk of dehydration.

As it has been going on for 3 weeks from the sound of it, I would call the vet.

he is in a field on his own. His field mate died three weeks ago, and on the same night he was moved to a paddock closer to other horses, the grass in this field was short. His poo became runny and then improved. On Saturday he was moved into ANOTHER new paddock and the grass was not very long in here either. I have checked him again this morning and his poo is properly runny, and in lots of little piles. I did the pinch test on his skin and he does not seem too dehydrated.
I have called the owner and she said to see how he is tonight......
... my inclination is to call the vet!

It may seem obvious but is her wormed up to date? I saw this with my auntie's horse because she had forgotten to worm her, as soon as she was wormed everything firmed up nicely! (please don't think my auntie is cruel, she is anything but, she had just forgotten to worm her)

i would say it was a combation of the things you said above try and get some pre/pro biotics to help settle his belly it might be worth gatting a calmer just to help him relaxe a little aswell until he has got over his friend and the move. His is worming up to date? has he got field friends at this new place?

His worming is up to date yeah..... and he has two ponies either side of him. I will suggest the above to his owner, thank you all for your help
