i'm sorry i am posting here, as i know it seems to be a popular topic at the mo, but i really need some help and you lot are just great at that... so:

i have just recieved an offer to study at uni, so my horse has gotta go out on loan. thing is the course doesnt start until october, and i want to enjoy this summer with him as it will be the last for three long years

, BUT i also want to get this loan sorted asap so the person who takes him can get to know him and me before they take charge.

do you think it would be ok to advertise him now, and let the potential loaner share him over the summer with me (i obviously wouldnt expect payments) before taking him full time from september? and if so, what do i put on his ad?

thankyous

I agree with Tizzy. Put share with view to loan, and explain the situation to anyone who replies. I'm sure anyone who was interested would be fine about sharing with you over the summer.

Good luck

I was in the kind of same situation as you - I tok my horse with me to uni and at the end of first year I decided that I would not take her back with me after the summer for second year. I took her home with me at the start of summer when I broke up but I didn't advertise her because firstly I knew that she would be very popular and so I didn't need to and secondly I didn't want to as I wanted her to go by word of mouth to someone local. I knew that the first person to see her would want her but I wanted to be arranged early so I asked my friend to spread the word at a show at the begining of summer that she was available for loan. Sure enough, people wanted her and the first to see her wanted her - I had told them on the phone straight away that I wanted to get arranged sooner rather than latter but that she wouldn't be available until the October because I wanted to have the summer with her, they were fine with this - I saw them numerous times over the summer but did not share the horse with them. They took her on in October, two days before I returned to Uni.
My phillosophy was: She is good enough for people to wait for her but if they can't see that, then they don't deserve her and I'll find someone else!!! I guess it depends how special the horse is though whether you can take this attitude!!
