Ok so long story short have had some confidence issues and have finally broken through my mental block:) so much so my inscructor ( who is my crutch and would never ever suggest I do something she would think I'm not ready for, so kinda chuffed!) Now the hunt is a pony club hunt but adults welcome and there is a big group going from the yard and I will have a companion rider on the day!!!! Now just looking for some tips to keep myself and my youngster calm enough ...should I lunge her before we go? Also presume there is rest periods during it? Will stick a green ribbon on her tail... Also is it ok to wear back protector over tweed jacket as mine is bulky so wouldn't be able to close jacket otherwise:) sorry for the silly questions but never hunted as a child !

Back protector over tweed will be fine.

There will be plenty of periods of standing still while the huntsman draws the covert, so while they are not scheduled rest periods as such you will be able to recover your breath, take your legs out of stirrups for a stretch, gobble a mars bar etc.

For nerves I take human calmer as I do not hunt mounted regularly and I tend to feel a bit sick before I meet my hireling. It seemed to work last time I used it as I didn't look as white as the huntsman's breeches!

yes, stick a green ribbon in her tail - it shows anyone that she is novice horse. Rescue Remidy can help. Don't overfeed your horse - just lots of hay and high fibre feed - they will have plenty of adrenalin pumping through her system.
