Following on from the "Do you bandage post last night."

I nearly killed my horse with a tail bandage. See previous post.

Like many of people who responded last night I had used tail bandage for year prior to this never having any problems. I know loads of people who have also used tail bandages for years never having any probs. The bandage was not on tight and it was not on overnight (although I had done this in the past with no probs

) I used a bandage as mare rubbed her tail so didnt want bog brush tail like many of responses last night. The vet thinks that its the rubbing that caused the issue, we think the bandage must have folded over due to rubbing and the more she rubbed the tighter it got.

I am not an irresponsible niave horsey owner I have had horses for years am on a big yard with lots of very experienced people about and I would never do anything to injury any horse.

Sorry to bring this up again and feel free to ignore post if you wish I just want to share my horrible experience to prevent it from happening to others as im sure many people will put my response last night down to stupidity on my part!

Your post about the tail bandage really stuck with me and reading the post last night I cant belive so many people use them.
I do admit I used to use them but since reading your original post I have brought a tail gaurd and have thrown the bandages away.
Thanks for posting, the more people that see this the better.
I know people who wet tail bandages and then leave them on over night

Hairymolly I am glad you posted last night , My experience with tail bandages have been bad as I said last night, I dont know whether it is coincidence with tommy and missy BOTH rubbing their tails , I never bandaged before and the one time I bandaged was the one time they BOTH rubbed their tails , possibly to get the tail bandage off .

Shall be buying a tail guard for balmoral .
