ok, my daughter is not sure if she wants to keep otto as she has some issues with him.
he is 16hh IDxTB,8 yr old. excellent to box/shoe/catch etc. ridden in a snaffle at all times, excelent manners.has a fantastic jump on him, been placed local level every time out. currently ash is jumping him 2ft 9 courses which he steps over!..( has been jumped and loose schooled over 5ft 3 with scope to go higher ) hacks alone or in company and wont bomb off if the one in front does! flatwork does need work.
the problem ash has is that he loves jumping and she cant always hold him..he gets stronger and faster the more he jumps..
ive given her the options of having lessons through the winter to work on this with an instructor or to sell him and get a ready made, maybe a tad smaller than him to as she only weighs 7.5 stone.
i dont suppose this is the right time of year to sell anyway but how much do you think hes worth.

Oh no she can't sell Otto, he sounds wonderful!

I personally think he is worth at least £4000 going by today’s prices. I'll swap him for my Otto, he doesn't get strong, most of the time he just can't be arsed to put the effort in! Just Joking!

Good luck if you do decide to sell him, I'm sure you won't have any problems at all.

If she finds him strong yet he is in a snaffle at all times have you tried an upgrade in brakes for when she is jumping him?
He sounds nice, has he done any competing previously??

joella id keep myself just as a hack but that would be an insult and a waste of him! i cannot find fault with him regarding manners/handling etc.
Boss , we have discussed upgrading the brakes but i suggested to her the lessons first and then upgrade the bit if necessary although im not sure what he would tolerate as he has a fairly soft mouth. he CAN do a course at a sensible speed but not sure if he is using his strength against her when he jumps..she can gallop him flat out in an open field with another and pull him up while the other keeps going..so he could just be taking the P out of her!! he hasnt competed before as he was in the kings troop. we took him out to his first indoor the other night and he got a third place. hes been over a few xc courses and never refused one yet although did need a bit of encouragement to go in the water which he did without to much of a protest. with the right rider he would easily affiliate now.

I bought an 8year old IDxTB who had not done anything apart from hunt and we were told he was ready to PN. We got him for £3750 that was about 3 years ago.

I would say anything from £4k

If he's getting quicker & stronger as he's going round a course of jumps then I would expect that he has a balance problem. Lots of horses do this, mainly youngsters but it also happens with older horses who haven't had sufficient groundwork to establish a nice steady canter. An instructor would be able to help with this problem. It doesn't need to be a jumping instructor infact you may find a dressage specialist would be better at this. Loads of leg yielding & transitions will assist with his balance along with other exercises. He will bring his hocks under himself & his balance will improve. It will take time to correct this but it's worth it. Basically get a good instructor, have regular lessons & practise what the insturctor says in between the lessons & you will see the improvement. Good Luck
