hey guys
ok yesterday i posted a post saying how proud i am of my horse and just got loads of crit ok so fair enough i may not be the best rider but taking the mick isnt going to make me listen?
i didt want to be rude at all i was just proud of something and just got it thrown back in my face
my videos on youtube are months old scence then i have had lessons and improved just havent recorded
i dont ever jump 3 times a week
normaly 1 or rarely twice if having a lesson never 3 tbh

also some one on the post said 'teenagers like to agree with the comments that sound the best' and if your being rude and taking the mick then im not going to take you seriously

tbh some of you dont read what im mean right ? like i say outline and your like 'your doing it wrong' straight away and you havent even seen in? see thats what kinda bugs me as iv been trying for an outline for ages and now shes flexing her neck a bit more
shes not in pain or anything - i had a dressage lesson tuesday and he said we looked fine - eventer

So im not looking for arguements but when you guys take the mick outta stuff im proud of it buggs me :) it would bug anyone right?

Very refreshing to read this! Glad you are concentrating on dressage lessons.

I honestly think people are just concerned about a too harsh bit being used (may I suggest a half cheek snaffle, they seem really handy with rushing), IMO the majority are not taking the mick.

All the best with your pony, perhaps read through the post again now emotions have calmed down and take on board some of the brilliant advice you were given :)
 
I wasnt taking the mick out of you last night. I really do mean a lot of people look down at their horse's head and see it tucking in and think yey my horse is working in an outline. But their horse is just 'looking pretty' as I call it and their back end isnt working properly. I've made the mistake before myself and it wasnt till my saddle fitter watched us and commented on how weak my mare was behind that I realised I was concentrating so much that my mare's head was in the right place that her bum wasnt at all working!

Your horse will be far more likely to simply be tucking her head in when she is in a pelham as she will be evading it. Please do go back to a snaffle. You will have to work at it and try the exercises people suggested as you wont get a quick fix but it will be so worth it for you and your horse will keep jumping.

I also do recommend you think about changing your instructor as I dont think he/she should be suggesting you go from a snaffle to a pelham.
 
My instructor did... but it was extreme and my horse at the time was totally in control and taking the mick- like taking off in the school. Changed instructor who watched me for about 5 minutes and then he was promptly dropped into a much stronger bit. It was (coughs slightly) 25 years ago (eek!). We had become a danger at that point and I would not put myself through that now!

However, once we had etablished he could no longer tank off whenever he felt like it and I had control, we then went back to a snaffle for flatwork. On looking back I still think he was one of the hardest horses I ever had to try to bit properly and had a different bit for each discipline! On the plus side I had the widest exposure to the largest number of bits ever..I have also never ever lost my appreciation of a horse that can canter open spaces without having to be sat on hard to stop being peed off with!
 
If you are having lessons with a qualified, experienced instructor and they suggest a certain bit, of course you take the advice. You don't change your bit because someone who has seen a video on a forum says another bit would be better! Its common sense. As a BHSAI I find it amazing that so many people suggest things opposing what this girl's instructor says. Theres nothing so annoying as someone who you're trying to teach, who reads something somewhere, or speaks to someone and does something totally different from what you're working on! Different bits suit diferent horses. Some horses would pull their mouths raw in a snaffle. Horses have different shaped mouths. Not everything is like a text book. SJ123 is doing the best thing possible in working with an instructor - starting with dressage... Sometimes she seems a little naive and in a rush, but I can't count the no. of teenagers that I've taught like that!
