My 14.2 connie can get strong xc but can become very backwards near water, which he doesn't like. I currently ride him in a dutch gag, on the second ring with one rein. (Please don't shoot me down for this, I know a lot of you have strong feelings about the use if this bit! 
) So I'm just thinking whether it was worth trying a loop ring/ wilkie snaffle instead? How much do they differ in strength?
And while I'm posting...
Is there a cheaper alternate to NS/KK bits regarding warmer, nicer tasting metals?
