The greyhound gang have developed an unnerving knack of knowing when we are taking the packet of ham out of the fridge. It is not the fridge itself, they aren't bothered if we get anything else out of there, it is just the ham! How do they distinguish what it is - sound or smell? It really is uncanny, they are all there in seconds as soon as the ham is produced :D

Probably both haha mine only both to get out of bed when it is dinner time, so i can only assume dogs can read the clock.

LOL! We keep setting tests for the hounds to try and catch them out, it hasn't worked so far :) Dogs are too clever for their own good sometimes :D :D

I have 3 drawers on one unit in my kitchen and in the middle one is kept their treats, the top one contains cutlery so gets used quite a bit, the bottom one contains towels/ tea towels. Now my dogs can all be in the sitting room but the minute I open that draw they are in the kitchen like lightening, it doesnt make a different sound to the others and I dont have to touch a bag of treats for them to react. So how do they know? as I dont have a clue.

Mental telepathy!

I have wondered about this myself. I can't work out what triggers them for their favorites, as it truly does not seem connected to sight / sound / smell. Of course I haven't run any proper scientific tests, so I'm going with telepathy! lol
