My horse has been on box rest for two days.

He was on bute for 5 days then came off. He started to get the 'runs' about 3 days into box rest. I assumed it was the bute and reckoned that after he stopped that he would produce more solid material.

The bute stopped and his back legs were still brown. Thought it was the Horslyx I was giving him to keep his foot in the salt water, but stopped them and he still has borwn legs.

His 'waste' is still pretty solid, perhaps not as formed. He is getting is normal feed and hay.

Is it lack of mobility, stress or something else causing it.

He is stabled due to a hoof abcess.

Was he on antibiotics?? as they can upset the digestive tract. Perhaps get him some Probiotic to get him back to normal (or Yakhult will do the trick).

Possibly just the sudden change in diet has done it... even with an abscess there is no reason why he can't be out. Try it. just use hefty amounts of duck tape to hold the poultice on...
