My yard is right opposite the entrance to my OH's farm, near Taunton. I drove down the drive at 6.10 this morning and saw 2 vans parked outside the entrance to my yard. I took the registration numbers which are

R271 MWJ
R431 DWS

Two men jumped over the gate and drove off in these vans. Nothing has been taken and horses were all OK, but they had picked up a headcollar from the yard and left it by the entrance. I telephoned the police who were actually very helpful. One of these registrations doesn't exist and the other is registered to an estate car.

So once again, don't want to scaremonger but please be on your guard!

It's been happening in Ashburton aswell. My auntie owns a mare and foal and they've resorted to paddlocks and 24 hr supervision. They've been taking a picture on first visit then they make an ad and try to sell them! As soon as they get a buyer they come back and steal the horse. I don't know if it's happening there but in Ashburton area people are seeing people in their fields!

Just to update you on all of this, several horses have been found in a field behind a gypsy camp not far from us. Two youngsters were stolen from just down the road and these horses have now been returned to their owners by the police. Sorry I don't know much more info than this, no one seems to know anything around here and there's not even a record of these horses being stolen on the Stolen Horse Register or Somerset Horsewatch! Anyway, as for the 2 vans, my brother spotted them on the back of a Police truck a few days ago in Ilminster, so it looks like something has been done about this lot. I will keep you all posted if I hear anything more!
