Anyone with experience of soya intol9/allergy? What were the symptoms?

About 3 weeks ago I moved my mare off Blue chip lami light balancer and onto top spec lite just because she seemed to have gone off the blue chip, and wasn't really eating it.

This seems to have coincided with her being very itchy around her face. I've had a look at the ingredients, and apparently top spec contains various forms of soya, whereas blue chip doesn't contain any.

Is this a likely cause? What else could it be? Surely it can't be mites at this time of year? She hasn't rubbed herself raw, no scabs or anything, she's just rubbing her chin on the fence a bit, and rubbing her whole face all over her haynet.

Ps I have ordered some more blue chip, so I will try her back on that and see if it helps. I was just wondering if anyone else had had this same experience (plus I'm too impatient to just wait like a fortnight to actually see for myself ?)

I've had a horse with allergies ...nightmare but what you can try is some human anti histamine tablets ( a horse needs a fair few)
Or even an anti histamine cream on the itchy bits.

All else fails it's a vet probably steroids or a skin biopsy which isn't that nice for the horse and costs hundreds.

Wow, I swopped to Topspec lite balancer and one of mine came out in odd lumps/bites, mostly on the body, vet had no idea what it was...I never suspected the balancer, but the timing would be spot on - mine is ok on Pink Mash though, and that's soya hulls I believe... Interesting!

That's interesting. I switched mine to Bailey's Meadowsweet and she suddenly had a very itchy face. I've continued with it and she seems better now, although still has a good rub on her haynet occasionally. Just looked at the ingredients and it has soya in it.

I was thinking of introducing pink mash because she's also prone to being a bit uncomfortable in her tummy, and now I'm a bit scared! I'll just have to stop the top spec, see how that goes, and move forward from there I guess ?‍♀️

I've just bought some aloe vera juice to try, (see the post about scoping a horse)...it's a minefield, isn't it?!
