Right, time of year to look at my feeding regime going into winter! I have just changed to a new stockist of feed - I am able to get feed from a local mill direct at a fraction of the price it costs me in the local merchants.
They sell both horse-ready soya meal and linseed meal, both of which I have fed in the past and both of which have benefits (and downsides I know). Would you continue to feed both or just one or the other?
Also, I have always fed my riding horses H&P nuts alongside their mixes, and my broodmares Stud nuts, but looking at the make-up and ingredients, they are very similar apart from the protein content (stud nuts much higher). I am thinking of switching them all onto stud nuts (nearly the same price) as the higher protein seems appealing.
Everything gets chaff, a mix (dependant on work level) sugar beet and equijewel in addition to the above. They are also on adlib hay and a bucket of readigrass daily.
Also has anyone fed raw eggs before? I recently bought a very old fashioned book about feeding, and they have said that horses can be fed 1-3 raw eggs a day to increase their protein ration and help them keep weight on. I have one very poor dooer that might benefit from this.
And Brewers yeast - has anyone tried that? Again, that seems to act a bit like pink powder (which I feed from time to time) but I was wondering if it had noticeable benefits.
