I need to install some semi permanent electric fencing. I was going to use wooden posts to give it a bit more security than the plastic posts. How far apart do I put the posts?

I put mine at about seven strides, easier to measure when you are out banging them in! I use the smaller round posts as they are easier to get in on chalk and can be moved more easily if you need to.

Should add that if you are using tape and it's windy where you are closer is better as too much movement and the filaments break and the fences becomes less conductive. I use wire with thin tape for sight and this works really well and no injuries if the run at it.

One at each end and whereever the line deviates from a straight line! Much easier than banging loads of posts in.

We've for permenant semi-permenant  fencing and I've put a strong wooden post at each end to tension the line then plastic fence posts along the strand. Easy and quick to put up and easy to maintain and repair.
