It would have to be a spaniel!

Typical Spaniel! I thought it was called Neil at first

We are going to the Cairngorms next year, my Dad was saying that Otto can't do much damage up there except for running off a cliff, so last week we were pleased to find that he seems to have enough sense to stop when he reached a (sort of) cliff edge

I now want a spaniel called Neil

Henry got stuck in the river today, as he couldn't work out that the best place to climb out was not at the sheer edge of the bank, but the bit where he got in... he was whimpering so I went and hauled him out, he then instantly turned around and jumped back in again...

The second time I left him to climb out by himself!

See, Otto ostounds me with his logic at times! He'll run through a gap in the fence, run along the fence and then realise he can't get back through, instead of doing as most Spaniels do and panicking, he just calmly runs back to where he knows the gap is. Same with if he gets into water and can't get out, he just goes to the bit where he got in.
Sometimes I wonder if he is really a pure bred spaniel or not!
