I am going to visit my house in spain in a few weeks and last time I was there I discovered a dressage yard down the road from me but didn't have chance to check it out and have a look. This time however I am going to take a look. I speak a good level of spanish to converse with people but I don't know any horsey words, even searching on the internet I can't find any other than a youtube video which doesn't cover many :( So can anyone point me in the right direction for spanish horsey words(dressagey terms etc) or even tell me some??? It would be much appreciated :D:D:D

I'm near a town called Alhama de Murcia, its about an hour south of Alicante

PapaFrita: Words mainly to do with riding, I was thinking if I had a lesson how do I know if their saying leg on or not and half halt ? I could put them in a translator but it wouldn't come out correctly :confused: So here goes; inside leg, outside leg, inside rein, outside rein, half halt, walk, trot, canter, etc there's a lot to think of haha

Ive never heard it called that before.. everyone I know calls it Doma..
canter they say.. galope, which used to confuse me...lol
showjump... salto de obstáculos
stallion.. (100s here) Semental
foal.. potro

google translate is good for translating..
 
hahah stallion will be an easy one to remember, just think about stallion stereotype of mental hotheads XD

I know mare is yegua, and filly is potrilla? or something like that

cruz - withers
crin - mane
cola - tail
casco - hoof
hererro - farrier
estable - stable
silla de caballo - saddle

but thats the extent of my spanish horsey vocabulary :O

haha we may be going further up that way for a bit so i could drop by if i'm near :p haha feel free to fit a yearling in my suitcase just make sure it doesn't sit on my make up :D

I'm from Argentina so it might be a bit different, the gist, I expect is the same.
Half halt; Media parada
Inside leg (I assume you mean your own leg ;) ); Pierna interna
Outside leg; Pierna externa
Inside rein; Rienda interna
Outside rein; Rienda externa
walk; Paso
Trot; Trote
Canter; Galope
Horses' legs are different; Forelegs are 'manos' and hind legs are 'patas'.
Extend/lengthen; alargar shorten; acortar
Collect; reunir

BTW; Stable is EstablO :)
