Cadre Noir have displays in Saumur alternate Thurs and Sats through from March-September. You can visit the stables too.

This is my French programme for the horse mad.

Take a ferry or fly to Paris. Travel south-west direction Loire/Bordeaux.

First stop off the motorway Versailles in the King's Stables watch the ridden displays of Criollo and Lusitano. Visit stables after the show.

Easy two hours down the motorway, stop at one of our many good local B&B's and enjoy a three course lunch for 10 euros. Head off the motorway (about 45 mins) and to the National Stud at Lion D'Angers. Tours every afternoon at 3.00pm and enjoy a carriage ride. Lovely walks around the cross country course and regular race meetings.

Another easy hour on the motorway to Saumur. Morning visit to Cadre Noir. Have lunch or go for a wine tasting session. Afternoon visit to Chateau of Saumur with stunning views of the Loire and visit Museum of the Horse.

Two more hours south and into the Vendee. Visit the Puy de Fou a huge park with jousting, chariot racing and the most spectacular evening Son et Lumiere, which traces the history of the Vendee from the middle ages. Stables house 400 horses mostly Arabs and PRE but also heavy horses.

Thanks Rollin, I would love to do a trip like this.

Also, sorry to be a kill joy but I understand the Cadre Noir have postponed there trip until 2012.
