Hi all,
I am thinking about buying a spare saddle for my horse, so that my sharer can keep it at her house. At the moment she has my horse and saddle all the time as I have had a baby. I intend to start riding again around June so will need my saddle back, and we have agreed that she and I will share the riding for the foreseeable future. At our yard there is no tack-room however and so one of us will need to take the saddle home - tricky if the other person wants to ride as they will need to get the saddle and we don't live very close to the yard. I have looked into lockable tack storage but for a similar price I could get a decent 2nd hand synthetic saddle. Maybe this would be a better option as the sharer could have the 2nd hand saddle and I can hang onto the original one. It would also be good to have a synthetic option as we do a lot of beach riding.

At the moment I have a 5 year-old Falcon GP event saddle which fits. I thought I would get new 2nd hand saddle in same 'size' then call out saddle-fitter to check. Horse is fairly middleweight (connie x andalusian). I have seen a lot of cob owners using Wintecs - would these be suitable and/or does anyone have any better recommendations.
Also is ebay a good place to buy one or should I avoid? Or would I be better just going to a saddler?

I have found Thorowgood to be brilliant; very comfy and versatile, nearly indestructible and quite reasonably priced. You could find one on Ebay, but they are fairly cheap to buy new, so might'nt be worth it. I had a T4 GP, which I ended up selling to my YO, and now she loves it too.

Thorowgood generally a better shape head plate than Wintec, and espeically for cob shapes but no guarantee that either will fit - you're best off getting a fitter out to be sure.
