Spavin fusion using ethyl alcohol

Hi. My horse recently had ethyl alcohol injected into his hocks to promote fusion (once we had exhausted all other avenues). My understanding is that the area should be somewhat denerved by the alcohol and then generally the joint takes 4 - 12 months to fuse. My vet said providing he seems sound I can begin riding again.

Just curious to hear from anyone who has had or knows of anyone who has had this done. What sort of recovery and time frame is to be expected?
