Hi, when i was poo picking my field last night I came across some yellow type eggs in the poo. Obviously I googled it and it said it was bot fly eggs.
Am I right in saying the best thing to do here is 1. Clear the field of all poo, 2. worm them with a wormer that has ivermectin and 3. shampoo them
with an insecticidal shampoo??

Please help
Thanks

At this time of year bot flies are quite prominent. If you look on your horses you will likely see these eggs. My boy gets them round his knees mainly.
Yes clearing poo is good but you will still get bots. I wouldn't worm yet unless needed by your plan- i would wait til September/October to worm as at the mo you will worm but they will still get eggs laid until late autumn.
I have never heard of using shampoo to kill them off- just buy a bot knife from tack shop and scrape off any eggs.

Bot eggs are mainly found on the horse mainly on the legs, they are tiny just about visable, you can scrape them off with a bot egg knife so they dont lick them off and end up in the stomach.
You must have seen something else in the droppings could have been other worm eggs, best to get a worm count done there are two different types of worm count, one is you send a poo sample the other is unfortunately you have to stick some sticky tape to the bum then send that off, I cant for the life of me remember what that one is for but its been a year for many horses to have this type of worm and the eggs are visable in the droppings.
