As a stallion, what do we think of him?

What sort of mares is he suiting? Temperament? Does anyone have any of his stock?

Help much appreciated - thanks!

Performance Ermelo 2002 (05-09 t/m 13-11)
Special-D is an honest, reliable stallion. He is very willing to work and he works well.
The walk has scope and is pure and active. The body is used well in the walk. Special-D has good scope in the trot. He trots with very much tact. He carries himself well and has very much impulsion. He can do changes well in the trot. The foreleg should come from the shoulder a little more. The canter has a lot of scope. He canters with very much impulsion and a lot of self-carriage. Special-D has much to very much talent for dressage and gives his rider a very good feeling.
Special-D has sufficient take-off in jumping. He has sufficient technique of the foreleg but holds himself a little and he should finish the jump better. He seems careful and shows sufficient scope. Special-D has sufficient talent for jumping and gives his rider a sufficient feeling.
Stall and handling behavior are normal.
Veterinary remarks: nothing out of the ordinary.

Offspring 2004 (foals)
Special-D showed richly developed foals that stand in good rectangular model. The foals are riding type, long legged and have much refinement.
The Special-D foals have an expressive, sometimes long head. The poll has good length. The neck is long and well shaped. Once in a while there is a slight ewe neck. The wither is more than sufficient in length and should be more developed. The shoulder has sufficient position and length. The back has good length, muscling and is nicely connected. Sometimes the loins are a little tight. The croup is sometimes short and flat. The gaskin is sometimes poorly muscled. The hamstring should sometimes be longer. The foreleg is sometimes toed in and sometimes under the body. The stance of the hindleg is correct, sometimes a little sickle hocked. Sometimes transition to the cannon is not smooth. The base has quality but should be more developed.
The walk is pure and has more than sufficient scope. The foals use the hindleg strongly in the trot and have much impulsion and are uphill. In some cases there should be more freedom in the shoulder. The Special-D foals jump easily into the canter. The scope in the canter is sufficient. Sometimes the croup stays a little high.

In short: a uniform collection of long-legged foals that stand in good rectangular model. The foals have an appealing front. The hamstring should be longer. They show good use of the hindleg during movement, the foreleg should have more freedom in the shoulder.

There were 18 picked foals and five foals selected by the owner shown. Two foals were inspected at home. The one foal fit in with the above picture. The other foal deviated negatively from the above in regards to charisma and muscling of the neck and back.
The quality of the mares varied.
Shown: 23 (+2) foals out of 255 mares that were bred in 2003.

Pedigree information state 2002
The proven combination of Ferro x G Ramiro-Z produced the stallion Métall, the sire of this Special-D. On his mother's side Special-D is supported by good, proven bloodlines with movement qualities from stallions such as Zandigo, Farn, Doruto and Uron. The keur preferent grandmother Aafke, in combination with Ferro, produced the French approved Grand Prix dressage stallion Joeris, a light tour horse in the US and the UTV mare Gloriosa, a full sister to Haafke.

Conformation description 2002
Special-D is a more than sufficiently developed, riding type stallion in good rectangular model. The neck is well formed and the wither/shoulder formation is well developed. The loins are strong and the hindleg is correct. The foreleg should be longer.

And a video of my homebred colt "Apart Design" Special D x Samber who is somewhere in the UK now. he was sold by Astrid Bolton.

We had a very nice filly in 2006, elegant, refined, good supsension with good reach from the shoulder when she opened up, fanatsic hock action and powerfull behind she was best placed coloured non native at the chaps futurity and believe she has shown well since then. Could have done with more suppleness through the back but would say that came from the dam. Destined for a dressage career with current owner.

How do you think he'd compare to OOSeven? Sorry being a pain deciding...

Thanks for the help - really is appreciated!

I like them both equally, if your breeding to sell then I would say Special D produces that little bit of x factor, perhaps a little tenser in movement but suspended and expressive and as his report states can produce foals that are a tad restricted through the shoulder and perhaps a little tense through their backs but under saddle that can be dealt with. We kept our Ooseven over the Special D to push out the samber in our next generation as are then confident to breed back to our own TT colt years down the line who also has Samber. She will also have the height as is 16.1 at 2 years of age.

While the dressage index of Special D is going to be higher and higher, the index of OO seven seems to be in a free fall.

The index is in the beginning a calculation between both parents and their family. OO seven started over 200 points and is in a relative short period lowered to 163 and still going down. Special D started with 123 and because of his own and his progeny's performance he is 153 now and still going up.

You must very beware of the size when you breed an OOseven mare with Samber influence to another stallion that also has Samber influence because you might breed a pony. Rubinstein and Samber are known not to make the biggest horses and is proven in the past that size can really be a problem in this combination. Not to forget the flat foreleg both stallions give. I would have kept the Special D and bred here to the German Sanyo. Size, power and action in their legs!

i have a stunning black colt by Special D out of a Lancet mare and he is GORGEOUS!! Cannot fault him.
He has a great brain, quick but not sharp, Infact you can say he has an exellent conscience, he takes 'telling' well.
As a modle of a horse he is everything and more that i like in a modern athletic horse with all three paces to die for. The canter is like that of Salinero, so quick and so much activity.
He is a joy to do and hot enough to be able to react when required.
hates water however so no he will never even but does have a nice little pop on him.!!!
