Hi all,
My lad has been sporting 2 rather fetching transparent frog supports in his recovery from lami.
He went out the other day as it had FINALLY stopped raining... you can guess what happened. Both pads with attached shoes lost in the mud, in a 4 acre field...

Any ideas on how to find them? I am probably clutching at straws here but I wondered if anyone had any tips? Other than hire a metal detector?

If the frog support is transparent I would hazard a guess it isn't metal!

To be honest I think you've lost them. Sorry. Trying to find them in a 4 acre field - which is probably a sea of mud if mine is anything to go by! - is going to be like the proverbial needle in a haystack!

agree with you have most likely lost them :( the other thing you could do is ask people to walk up and down with you row by row, again its 4 acres and the chance is it has been buried x

See if you have a local metal detector enthusiasts group, you almost certainly will! They like calls for help and you will probably find that a few turn up for the challenge

Shay - I was assuming there would be metal attached somewhere as op suggested the idea.
I've previously spend two days scouring a dinky starvation paddock for a shoe so wouldn't bother with 4 acres unless extortionate. If they've pulled mostly off and then been kicked over fence line (had a few of these) then it'll be a long slog for nothing.

If nails were involved it might be worth making an effort to find the shoes. Shoes with nails in can be a hazard if a horse stands on them.

I used to find them whilst poo picking and also by riding in my field, much quicker and you can do your normal thing along the way... Obviously not suggesting you ride him but if you have another horse or someone else has! Other than that, metal detector enthusiasts!

Yeah they've still got the metal shoe attached! I expect someone with a metal detector would find dozens of shoes! When I think of how many I have lost over the years, there must be loads in our big field.

Will try the metal detector suggestion! Thanks!

I would look for skid marks where they have been hooleying around. Also rolling spots, they sometimes get feet in a tangle and stand on their own shoes if getting up quickly for another prat around.
