Spectating at Somerford Park HT

We've spectating at the upcoming horse trials on the 22nd/23rd May.

Can anyone advise when is best to go and where is best to spectate from please?

And any HHO riders for me to cheer on?
 
I'm competing in the 80. I think its all quite concentrated in the area near the camp stables from what I can gather - show jumping and dressage there, start and finish of the xc as well. I'll let you know my number when they confirm them

I've never been to Somerford before. We were supposed to go to the event in August a couple of years ago but I think it got rained off iirc.
 
You can get entries list and schedule off BE website. Just had a quick scan of it, it’s only 80/90/100 so nothing wildly exciting to see. 100’s are on the Sunday, a smattering of pro names, big names running young horses are Oli and Piggy.

From the above ^^^^. It's down to the individual event whether to allow spectators or not.

Behind Closed Doors Policy: Events may be able to open doors for wider public attendance, but they reserve the right to run Behind Closed Doors. Please check BE schedule for up-to-date information.

There is a spot on the hill that borders one side of the river flood plane where you can see 2/3 of the course. Walk to about fence 4 or 5 and you will find it. It's a lovely flowing course to view.

I'm jealous of the HHOers who are going to be riding, good luck everybody!

Thanks I'll seek out that spot!

From 17th May outdoor sports venues can have either 4000 spectators OR half their maximum capacity, whichever is lower.

I'm not sure why so few equestrian venues are taking advantage of this but guess its the old insurance issue.

Because so few will pay to watch BE 80/90, even with pros out on young horses it's not worth the extra cost of implementing.
 
Borde Hill are open to pre-booked spectators only - it's £5 per adult or free to BE members but have to have a ticket and that's the last weekend in May.
