Have you ever tried to get a speed limit reduced, how and did you succeed?

I ask because the road between the yard and the fields is a 60mph road, this is a long narrow curved road (just about fits 2 passing cars), not so narrow between yard and field, i have had many near misses crossing the road, one example - I looked both ways etc. nothing coming so cross road, car comes round so fast couldnt stop so swerved (sp) round us (me and 2 horses).
My friend also nearly got hit by a very fast car when she was riding on the road a few days ago.

Someone at the yard did manage to get a speed limit of another road (comes off of road above) reduced but only after we had a accident with a lorry (which was way too big for the road) and my mum landed close to the wheel while it was still moving. But tis has only been reduced where the accident happened and the rest of the road is still 60mph.

Sorry for the essay :o

The first thing to do would be to get everyone at your yard and any other local yards along this road to write in to the Highways Department of your local County Council and ask for the speed limit to be reduced because of the risk of accidents. Make sure that you get a a copy of each of the letters and keep them. (A petition won't work it must be individuals writing in).

At the same time get in contact with the Parish Council and ask them for a motion in support of a speed limit reduction. Then once they have done this go to the district council and ask them for a motion. Then the same from the county council. Also contact your member of parliment.

If there are lots of walkers and cycists using this route then you may be able to use the quiet lanes scheme to get a erduction in the speed limit.

I would also suggest that you get some warning horse rider signs put up by the highways departtment.
