Hi all I would really like some advice or feedback from you guys. I have recently taken on a tb mare 19yrs on full loan view to by. she's recently been on Alfa-a with lo-cal balancer mixed in. And of course plenty of hay. Today her owner came to see her and suggested starting her back on speedi beef which I have no problem with as she has lost some weight. Looking good but want to make sure she's getting enough. She's gone away now so I can't ask her what she mixed speedi beat with. Can it be mixed with her Alfa-a portions and also still with lo-cal balancer which is in one of her feeds out of 2 feeds per day. Sorry to sound so thick!! Just want to be sure what to mix the speedi beet with. I know it can be given alone but I've a feeling hers wasn't.

Yes, no problem. They are just different sources of fibre and we have used them together lots of times. Also ok with the balancer.
Never think you are thick for asking questions - it is the best way to learn. The truly thick people would be those that didn't check!
Enjoy your horse.

- thank you! Yeah I always ask if im not sure of something it's been quite a while since I last had a horse aswell as them all being different I've forgotten a lot of the stuff that used to be common knowledge to me so I'd rather just ask advice and always better safe than sorry. I introduced her new mix tonight and she ate the lot. I think her portion was a little on the large side but I know for tomorrow now not to put as much in with her other feed. Hopefully it won't have any bad effect on her having a larger meal thanks again for your reply!! X

Perhaps try fast fibre or something like that rather than speedibeet, as both speedibeet and alfalfa are high in calcium. Generally, it's recommended to do speedibeet and chaff or something like fast fibre and alfalfa.
