I am currently feeding Speedi Beet. Which is working fine as i can soak when i get there and wait for it. But i do like to pre-make it up, which i've tried, but i left it for under 24 hours and it smelled fowl, so i binned it and tried again.
I'd like to try a Equi Beet, but does it have to be soaked for a minimum or 12 or 24 hours? As i've heard both things... And one of my old bosses used Equi Beet and it used to be on soak for less than 12 hours along with her other feed... So i'm rather confused at which to chose, or whether to stick to the Speedi Beet.

Any help would be great :D

I soak mine for 12 (mix tomorrow mornings tonight and tomorrow nights in the morning). Works fine, been doing it for a few years now. I sourced it because I had a dentally challenged oldie who needed hay replacer and Speedibeet is just so expensive

I use unbranded beet pellets and find they soak fine in 12 hours. If you are in doubt just run some of the soaked beet through your fingers and check whether there are any hard unsoaked bits. In warm weather it is important to soak it somewhere cool where it won't get the heat of the sun on it, as it goes sour more quickly then.

Unbranded would be molassed - wouldn't it be the sugars that go sour in warm weather?

I make 3/4 days worth of Speedi beet in a trug at a time. It never smells foul within that time. Where are you storing it?

Was this in the hot weather? I had a trug of kwik beet that started fermenting - there were bubbles and a strange smell. I think that had been sat around for 24+ hours so I'm making just one days worth at a time right now.
