Hello all,
I bought some Speedi-Beet for the first time today and will be feeding it to my 12.2hh colt for the first time tomorrow. Thing is, how much does everyone use of it dry before soaking? I'm terrified of mistakenly making buckets of the stuff as I've never used speedi beet before 😂 Any pointers or guidelines will be greatly appreciated 😂👍🏻

It should say on the bag how much water to beet but I would start with about quarter of a stubbs scoop with double the water, as you only need a small amount to start with and add more gradually over a week if you have some over it will last a good few days in colder weather.

equibeet is basically the same as speedibeet but it needs to be soaked for 12 hours and is much cheaper and you get much more for your money, I know it's convenient for some people to use speedibeet but using the other will save you money just a suggestion.:)

1 measure to 5 of water. It swells A LOT.

I've always used Speedi. Even in cold weather it soaks quickly, and if it's really cold, I use a little warm water.

It's perfect for a youngster. Just fibre & they seem to love the taste. Mine shovels it in.

I do two handfuls dry with about 1.5 l water in, that gives just about 3/4 of a scoop of fairly runny stuff. I feed it runny to put as much water in her feed as I can. Its fab stuff, so handy, if you use warm water it's soaked in 5 minutes.

Speedibeet is hardly expensive though! I've had a bag since August between two horses and haven't even finished it yet. Lasts for ages!

OP, I soak some in advance and it lasts for a few days no problem, especially in colder weather. So don't worry if you soak a bit too much!

I have loads of 500ml plastic measuring jugs from wilko/sainsburys. I put a handful of speedibeet in the bottom and then fill to the top with water. I leave the jug by his feed and then the yard just tips it in at feed time. Easy peasy :-)

Sorry to derail this thread slightly, but is speedi/equi beet used for weight gain? I like the idea of bulking up feeds with it if its mainly fibre (keeping a happy digestive system is becoming a borderline obsession of mine...) but my lady needs NO extra calories haha!

Just for your pony I would make 1/2 scoop of speedy beet to half a bucket of water. That will give you some juice and i would say 1/4-1/2 scoop incidentally my girl is 12 hh she has 1/4 scoop twice a day so you should get about 3 - 4 days out of that
