My usually laid back horse has suddenly become very spooky on hacks.

The only thing I have changed about his management is I have been feeding him speedibeet for the last couple of weeks.

As I understand, speedibeet has only 5% sugar, so should not have this effect.

Has anyone else had a problem with this feed?

I have now took him off it to see if it makes a difference. If it does all well and good. If not, I will get other checks done.

It could be the cold. But I do have a lad who goes nuts on speedibeet. And he is a usually laid back cob!

Hmmm , my lad has become spooky on hacks - and he's on speedibeet too (it's never occurred to me it could be this :/)

Mind you, field analysis is this area show there is no magnesium in the grass so may try a supplement first and if that doesn't work will remove the speedibeet :/

My mare goes batty on speedibeet and is fine on 'ordinary' sugar beet, I suspect it's because it's micronised that the energy is more readily available - that's my theory anyway! :D

I feed three of my four a fair bit of speedibeet and have never found this but have heard enough people say it to believe it does 'fizz up' some horses.

Mine is on speedi beet, as a horizontal cob it does seem to give him more 'go'. In fact hunting yesterday he was full of it all day, whereas usually after half and hour he is docile, i have been upping his speedi beet and it has certainly done the trick!!
