When my friend goes to shows with her pony, he is very chilled and calm, except in the approach to a fence. As soon as she has landed, he is fine again. What can she do to stop this?

I have the same problem. I have found that schooling and lots of grid work starting with walking and trotting over poles has helped a lot.

I have seen someone suggest that this is anxiety related or /and conditioning. Agreed slow work over poles, would help.

I have seen someone stop and rest the pony over poles, (with front feet over, rear feet behind the pole) so that the fence is seen as a place to chill. I believe this helped this particular pony not to rush. I can imagine that you would need to be consistent and take some time for this to be effective.

Wow this is such a good idea, I have never heard about this before- I'll be sure to let my friend know, thanks! :D
