Is it only me that feels really sorry for the spiders with their white egg sack beneath them that are lurking in the poo? I now remove most of the poo pile but if i see a pregnant spider I leave a couple of bits of poo for them to nest under...... am i just sad?

I love spiders, and fish them out of the bath/shower and would never ever kill one on purpose.

We have an adopted wolf spider pet at home..... he is huge..... and one day he is bound to set the alarm sensers off. I think spiders are much algined - they are here to help us and feed the birds :(

Hi,

If your poos have been on the ground long enough for spiders to build nests, then the worm lava have already migrated on to your pasture. Takes 3 - 4 days for them to leave droppings.

I'm not judging, just helping :)

Oh, so you're well and truly out!! :D lol

I wouldn't kill one and rescue as many as I can that find themselves in awkward places... never found any in poo though I have to admit that. Maybe it's a species that doesn't live here.

See this line ___________________________________ ? That's my pet line. Spiders are not allowed to cross the pet line. I'm sure your wolf spider it lovely though... :)

Getting interested now... I poo pick every other day, and the spiders are only found in the warm fresh stuff - they are brown, quite big and they carry their eggs in a white sac under their bum area... definatly spiders.... I know that for a fact..... wonder what they are?

Never seen them before but we get loads of sung beetles. I looked it up on the net and saw it on country file.
The are imagrints, but do a good job as sorting the pooh!

Me neither, sounds bizarre! Is it normal???

Probably in some areas. GingerWitch has a private planet so can't compare. I only find tiny black flies in mine. No, not mine, my horses. That would be yucky.

GW, hope you dont mind, but as you are resident arachnid expert, what spider is it that takes over whole sections of hedges and turns them white with webbing?? It's so eerie and happens almost overnight!

Havent seen any spiders lately but have done when they scuttle out with the big white ball. I think they do a good job spiders with horrid flies.
The big one in my bathroom lives in the fan and I get quite concerned if I dont see it for a couple of days!

I have been very good recently as I only have one horse so am poo picking daily. Am amazed at the wildlife that has moved in the beetles probably are top bug in the poo! Have no idea how they get there but there is always a hole in the ground under the middle of the poo and they always look like they have been living in it for weeks!

Interesting poo

Now, I have seen these holes recently, about the size of a stilletto heel. I wondered what they were - didn't know they were beetle holes. I poo pick every day, so they don't get long to move in and dig their hole. Admittedly my mare poos in the same 2 places every day, so they don't have to travel far to get to any fresh poos :)

I haven't seen any living in my horses poo but I have seen the big black/green/blue beetles that leave the big hole in the ground under the poo - seems like they are just waiting ready to burrow in when the horses do one. This post has made me very glad that there are other spider lovers out there who feel bad if they hurt or disturb them; most people I know can't stand them. I'm sad enough to blow/flick greenfly into their webs and used to almost have a 'pet' one, which came running out of it's hole when I dropped green fly on it's web!

Those aren't spiders that do that to hedges its special type of caterpillar whose name I can't remember

I was going to say this too - cant remember their name for the life of me, but they are blue and hairy and theres something toxic about them - in their hair maybe? We had a huge problem with them down here in Dorset a few years back and all the councils were out killing them.

off to google them now, cos i will be really annoyed if i cant remember what they are !!!

I love spiders! So much so that I have a pet one. A big hairy tarantula.
Ok, they're more like ornaments than a pet but an interesting one none the less

Oh Dancing Queen that is SO bad, especially the boiling water thing - think what it would be like if someone did that to you. Spiders do so much good in eating flies they should be encouraged. In my house I ask my cleaner not to suck them up the vacuum cleaner and to try not to disturb them too much. Not sure if she approves as I have more at the moment as she has been on holiday for a few weeks.

i also suck them up in the dyson and watch them spinning around. Evil spiders - they crawl over your face and into your mouth at night! and as for money spiders - they should be dealt with by trading standards - they never bring me any money! perhaps if they did I wouldnt kill them.

Sorry but that's horrible.

Perhaps if you didn't kill them, they WOULD bring you money.

I am scared of spiders, but I'd never intentionally kill one.

lol I'm with you DQ, if the come in my house they generally end up in Hetty hoover or on the bottom of hubbys shoe, i even once phoned hubby to come home from pub to rescue me from a spider!! if they are outside then it's fine i can cope with them but they are not allowed inside!! I have even had a sleepness night before now worrying that the big spider that i sucked up with hetty will manage toi find it's way back out and come get me for revenge:eek::eek:

From a website called kissingmatters.com

Here are a few that have impressed me as viable reasons to love/tolerate spiders:

Spiders have been revered in hundreds of really awesome myths and folk stories the world over. Sometimes they’re cast in the role of Creator, sometimes as gods and goddesses. Check out some of the stories, if you ever have time. They’re fun reads. Here’s one about Anansi the West African spider god: http://anansi-web.com/anansi.html
In North America, at least, only two kinds of spiders are truly harmful to humans – the brown recluse and the black widow (and, by all means, get rid of them). The rest actually just eat other insects we usually find pretty scary, including mosquitoes carrying malaria (the world’s #1 fatal disease) and flies carrying cholera.
The presence of spiders in your house is a sign that 2,000 fewer bugs per spider will be there every year.
In your garden, spiders eat those bugs that love to damage your plants! In fact, they’re used in organic cotton farming for exactly this reason.
It’s actually rare for most spiders to bite humans, unless they feel threatened in some way. A spider will probably not find its way into your bed more often than once or twice a year, and on those occasions, will most likely not bite you. It doesn’t want to suck your blood – it just wants to eat insects. Most spiders are unfairly blamed for bites when mites, fleas, and bedbugs are the real perpetrators.
Spiders love to eat mosquitoes. That’s a terrific reason to keep them around. Mosquitoes actually want to eat you; spiders are terrified of you, and only want to run away from you.
Like I said, spiders generally don’t want to bite you. A spider can’t even see you until you’re about a foot away from it, since spiders have horrific eyesight. Thus, it’s not going to aim for you when it falls from the ceiling (it’s probably just lost its grasp) or when it sees your foot on the floor.
Spiders are generally a sign of good luck in many cultures the world over!

I wouldn't have one as a pet but I find killing anything so harmless as a common spider quite sad. I think we should show compassion to all animals and certain insects. I think even flies have a purpose!!!!!
