Spillers Lite Balancer

I asked the same sort of question a while ago as I was hoping to put my lad on TopSpec comprehensive balancer. There were more good reviews than bad so I took the plunge and im pleased to report he has been fine, also now looking great!!

I went for the TopSpec comprehensive balancer purely because a friend had such good results from it. I now also feed TopSpec cool condition cubes alongside the balancer. Mine is a tb and was looking a little poor. I needed something to help him before winter. I think the general thought is that if the horse becomes naughty on the balancer ( in some, not all cases ) then it was probably lacking essential vits and mins which the balancer provides making the horse feel well.

I changed to topspec I did like Spillers but my feed merchants were stocking more Top Spec products so I switched not had an issue with both brands

Love the Spiller's Lite balancer. I feed it at half recommended rate (as advised by the Spiller's nutritionist). I used to use Baileys Lo Cal but the Spiller is far better and I only pay £18.25 a bag instead if £28. I've also used Top Spec but could never justify the cost.

Slightly off subject but ive switched from Spillers lite balancer to equimins advance concentrated Vit&min. More cost effect and more of all the ingedients in a tiny spoonful.

Don't understand the comments on price. TopSpec Lite balancer is £18 same as Spillers lite.
TopSpec Comprehensive is a lot more but that isn't a like for like comparison.

I feed spillers lite to my mare-
She is prone to being a bit of a handful and attitudey however she is fine on this- Hasn't become any hotter headed and she hasn't put on any unwanted weight so win win!

Do check out the ingredients both for the amounts of vitamins and minerals in a standard serving and also what the nuts contain - things like alfalfa, wheatfeed, molasses or molglo, peas/beans can affect the temperaments of some horses very badly. Don't be taken in by advertising - look at the actual ingredients.
You may be better off using a broad-spectrum vits and mins supplement without fillers.

To some extent it can be trial and error of which suits as it depends upon the horse and the forage/pasture they are on. Although forage analysis is the 'gold standard' you, yard owner or a local farmer may already have some idea of whether you are short of some essential minerals or you have too much of something - a lot of UK grazing has mineral imbalances. The other half of this conundrum is the horse itself and whether they have any intolerances or metabolic issues so different mixes suit different horses.

TopSpec lite balancer where I am is £19.95 but is only a 15kg bag whereas the Spiller's is £18.25 for a 20kg bag. I feed 250g per day so that amounts to and extra 20 days feed per bag.
