spillers srn maintenance mix

I feed this to Star from Spring to Autumn, and I can't say that it makes her put much weight on - as the name suggests, I use it to maintain how she is. However, spillers do a senior conditioning mix in the same range, which I feed in Winter months, and it definitely helps with weight gain

A horse will only put on weight if it is fed more energy in its diet than it needs for day to day living. So any feed can put on weight if it is providing more energy than the horse needs just to live. Some feeds are higher in energy per kg so you can feed less to get the same effect. For good do-ers look for low energy feeds (8-9 mj/kg DE) and for poor do-ers look for higher energy feeds (12mj/kg +).

Older horses can require a higher energy diet because their digestive system isnt as efficient as when younger, including their teeth.

I have just started my boy on this and I have to say so far its the veteran mix he has looked the best on. He is TB and can get lean in the winter but atm he looks fab.
