Ok - the horse that should never be hacked out, has been going very well in company, so much so we even have had a couple of canters.... he loves to lead and is a nosey little sod.

Big step for me - i have stated to take him down the track and to the top field all on his own, and then progressed to further down the track and around the 50 acre field. Ok he napped the 1st night - sat it out - he gave up, 2nd night he spooked and cantered "forwards" so i kept him in canter for about 10 mins - last night no napping, but one almightly spin - it was fast! but as we span i manged somehow to connect my hand with his neck and did it hurt ! - i stopped him dead in his tracks - made him turn around and shouted "you walk on, else i will chop your ruddy ears off " much to the disbelife of a chap walking on the bridle path alongside. Mr S proceeded to do just that and was a perfect, if a little strong, ride for the rest of it.

So - not bothered about the spin, but what was i doing wrong to a) not stop it and b)hurt my hand

Spins can be difficult. You did well to sit it! Dizz used to do this a lot, hence the name - The Dizzy Blonde lol.

If they spin, keep turning the way they were going until you decide to stop (take back crontrol of where the horse's feet are being placed). Turning the opposite way is a good plan :)

Your hand got hurt probably simply because of the speed and where your hands were at the start of the spin.

Agree with MrsM as spins are difficult to predict, could have been something up ahead that you didn't see, and put your hand in cold water for awhile that will ease the pain.

I have done the cold water "hosing" and am now resting it gently against an ice cold can of carling! lol - this hand hurts more than when in broke my leg ! - and i have an hours lesson on him tomorrow - but have asked my instructor to bring her hat just in case i cant last the hour ! Mr S -looked very sorry for himself when i showed him my hand (probalbly as no carrots were forthcoming at the time) - lol

Not sure I would have done the 50 acre field scenario with a horse that has been dodgey in the past.....quiet country lanes maybe......

I would much rather a field that road as our 'quiet lanes' are filled with speeding motorists / large vans / tractors etc.

I think you were quite brave myself! It can be quite daunting when they're naughty. Well done for standing your ground and staying on :)

Hand sore - and quite swollen - could not cook tea or do washing up (what a shame !)

50 acre field or quiet country lane = 50 acre field every time only pheasants, rabbits, crop scarers and crows..... quiet country lanes...... bikes, motorbikes, cars, vans, lorry's, the V festival...... need i say more

Going again tomorrow and i will cut his ruddy ears off if hes naughty tomorrow !
