Hi All,

I discovered a splint on saturday on my boy. He pulled a shoe last wed, and we think he has striked himself. There is still some heat, iam cold hosing twice a day, he is also on bute twice daily. He is sound in walk, but lame in trot, and he is still out 24/7. I have just bought an aerborn cool care gaiter to try. How long till i see any improvment.? The swelling in still there and does'nt appear to be going down.:(, but is'nt any worse :). Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks

Normally it would be a couple of weeks, if it takes a lot longer than that get the vet out.
What do you use him for, if its showing and you don't want a splint Radiol or Splintex is best used on a 'young' splint.

Mine was sound in walk and lame in trot. He had a week box rest and then a week turnout with both with lots of standing in the river in the village. The heat had gone then and it was hard and solid. He was sound and never had a problem with it since. So can take a few weeks.

my boy got a splint when he was 4, i cold hosed and used magnetic boots. As it happened id been in hospital so wasnt allowed to ride for 4 weeks. 2 years on, no splint!

Thankyou, sound like were on the right track and its going to take a bit of time. Think im having withdrawl symptoms of not riding.
