Quick question: do you use spirals when lungeing, and if so, why? I like to spiral my girl in from 20m to 15m then back out again in walk or trot as part of a lunge session as I think it helps her flexibility, keeps her interest and gets her listening to me. But I have been told not to do it by my RI as they think it will teach her to drop her inside shoulder. I don't use side reins and lunge using a flat cotton line and halter.
Any thoughts?

Oh I was going to post about this a little while ago! When schooling, my instructor advises using loads of spiral circles iwht my horse, leg yielding in and out. I do do this on the lunge too and I would think (though am no expert) that as long as they're pushing from the inside hind then they won't be dropping through the outside shoulder and will benefit from the lateral movement. I also like to spiral in, walk, and then push into trot (on the lunge I mean) as they start to spiral out, becuase it seems to really engage the inside hind. But I'd be interested in other's opinions as I am just making this up really :-)!!!
