Hi
I was just wondering if anyone had tried Spirulina for horses with COPD/ allergies. Mine was diagnosed a couple of months ago due to being on longterm box rest and was wondering if this would be of a benefit to her. Shes ok at the mmoment as she is out 24/7 but was thinking more for the winter. Im also currently looking into 24/7 turnout in the winter for her aswell but just wondered if anyone has tried this product and if it worked or not as I have never heard of it before.
Below is the product, ingredients and write up about it
Spirulina
Uses -
Allergies such as sweet itch
Breathing problems such as COPD
Hoof, coat and skin health
Boosts the Immune system, blood builder and detoxifier
Anxiety and Improving mood
Natural source of Vitamins, minerals and amino acids
Spirulina can be useful in allergic reactions such as sweet itch, as it controls the release of histamine and can block the formation of IgE, the immunoglobulin related to allergic reactions. Spirulina is more effective if started early on before the fly season starts.
Spirulina can also help horses which suffer breathing problems such as COPD as it enhances the primitive immune responses as well as antibody formation, cell mediated immunity and immunity at the level of the lining of the respiratory tract and gut. spirulina has been known to help the mental aspect of a horse by relieving anxiety and improving their attitude when in training. In Humans it improves hypertension, elevated blood sugar and abnormal blood triglycerides/cholesterol in human insulin resistance/type II diabetes
Spirulina is a natural source of:
Protein - 55-70%
Vitamins and nutrients - vitamin A, B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B6 (pyridoxine), B12 (cobalamin), vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, folate, vitamin K, biotin, pantothenic acid, beta carotene (source of vitamin A), and inositol
Minerals - calcium, manganese, iron, chromium, phosphorus, molybdenum, iodine, chloride, magnesium, sodium, zinc, potassium, selenium, germanium, copper, and boron,
Amino acids - isoleucine, phenylalanine, leucine, threonine, lysine, tryptophan, methionine, valine, alanine, glycine, arginine, histidine, aspartic acid, proline, cystine, serine, glutamic acid, and tyrosine.
Thankyou for reading and hopefully someone will be able to advise on wether its worth trying or not.
