Any advice. So that stitches reaction really was a reaction to stitches and now my horse has decided to chuck them back out through her leg. The vet is going to have a look this evening but does anyone else have any experience of this or advice?

Not quite sure what you mean but if you are saying that your horses stitches have come out then that is quite a normal occurrence.

My friends horse had staples (huge chest wound after breaking in half a wooden five bar gate whilst attached to a headcollar, whose lead rope was attached to a rope attached to a concrete post - long story). Friend thought the horse would be put down on the spot, skin from chest by its knees, huge cavity in chest. Vet came out and stapled, staple came out one by one over the next few days, restapled, eventually healed, no mark after six months.

Another case, friends horse had colic surgery, stitches came undone repeatedly. Was re stitched. Came good in the end and healed.

Nits had hock surgery and along with staples which sealed the skin she had vicryl sutures (dissolvable) left in to hold the muscle only rather than dissolving they are all being pushed out through her skin instead. It happens sometimes apparently. It's quite interesting. A couple of people had seen it in their cats and dogs when I posted before. I just wasn't sure if I should pull out the bits I could see or leave well along but the vet has looked now so no biggy :)

It's quite common for horses to burst their stitches, as the wound starts to heal etc.

Your vet will be able to give you some advice tonight Jess - and I wouldn't panic too much about it.
