Ok. So not so much of a despair but Im miserable after receiving my bill from Rossdales. Please stick with me, I need to get it off my chest!
Horse was kicked in field and broke her left hind fourth metatarsal splint bone in two places.
4 weeks on and one part had healed but the other hadn't. My vets ummed and ahhed and left her another 4 weeks even though I said I wasn't happy that it was taking this long and was still discharging. So 8 weeks on and another X-ray (so another £400) and yes, it looked much better and was all aligned but it was questionable whether the lower part had reattached (some signs it was attempting/starting to) so was told to give her a week, as the wound was suddenly weeping again and then start in hand walking.
3 days later and the wound that had initially healed looked like a cats bum hole. Very proud flesh sticking out and it stank! I rang the vets immediately and was told they'd actually referred to Rossdales as the vets partner had looked at the x-rays and wanted them looking at by a surgeon.
Queue being told I had to take her in three days for sequestrum of the bone. Surgery went well although she developed a skin rash from being clipped and scrubbed up. 6 days later I was supposed to bring her home but that very morning there was fresh blood on the bandage change from her being a fritzy eeejjeeooot so she stayed for a total of 12 days.
The insurance have paid out £1300 prior to the surgery for all the x rays etc. And now I've received a bill for £3300 from Rossdales for removal of a bone the surgeon described as being like us breaking a finger. She wasn't even lame on the damn thing. And I know, I know every little thing matters. But being charged £20+ for disposable gowns and another £20 for the sodding gloves is a killer.
My bill is more then a fellow livery's who's horse was there the month before to have surgery on its suspensories!! GARRHHH!!!
She's insured for £3500 only as only cost £1500 to buy. More fool me I guess but just poor luck when she's cost me almost three times that in vets fees. And not even over things she's done herself. Topping it off was that she's been on Karidox from the beginning. Rossdales swabbed it (so 9 weeks on) and turns out she isn't sensitive to it. And my vets made me pick up a fresh bottle two days before she went and won't refund. So now I have a lovely full bottle and can't do ****** all with it! 👌🏻
Who wants Easter eggs? I'm eating my 2 year old daughters in the promise I'll replace them as I need something to get me through this evening!
