My gelding has a large splint on the inside of his nearfore, just below his knee, this has been there for about 3 yrs now, but i noticed tonight he has another 'splint' looking lump coming up on the outside of his leg, just under his knee.
is this right..do splints come up on the outside ?
Thanks
Kirsti

Yes splints do form on the outside but not as common as on the inside. How large would you describe the other splint that has been there a while? My horse has one on the inside of both forelegs and they are nearly half the size of a tennis ball each!!

Yes they can, it depends on where the horse places the most stress on the leg - the inside or the outside. My horse has matching lateral splints (she's not got the greatest conformation!)

both forlegs have splints, they formed at the same time 3 years ago, both are just below his knees, the near fore one is alot bigger than the other, probably about the same size as peach stone (sorry couldn't think of anything else!), it has got bigger in the last month since he fell in the areana and his knee swelled up, the new lump on the outside is small, like a big pea but hard with a bit of heat, i didn't think his old splint would change but obviously the bruising to his knee as altered something. i have been putting Tenselvet on both for a few days now, he is sound. difficult to know what to do really, he needs exercising as he gallops about in his field if he is on 'rest' and causes more damage. supposed to be going to a show on sunday, fingers crossed but at 14yrs old i dont think his showing career will be succesful for much longer.
