Lame pony coming in from the field yesterday - very little shetland type - in very light almost no work - chatted with vet, initially we think it's a foot abscess, so we call the farrier and poultice overnight with animalintex.
I'm at this point ignoring the slightest swelling just below and in from the hock - he is after all 19 years old - but this morning, I'm thinking this little puffy spot might be a splint - now.... work with me here ... can we say that in the circs, if it is, it is almost certainly a knock, and we'd be best to hose and cold poultice and wait for it to settle?
Nothing on the poultice this morning, by the way. Still waiting for the farrier to get back to me (!) and have repoulticed just to be on the safe side. Very slight raise in temp yesterday, but almost immediately back down to normal. No digital pulse to speak of .. but then again, he wears such hairy socks ... !
Just off to chat with the vet again, but thought I'd consult the combined wisdom of the HHOers to see if anyone could fault my logic!
