My gelding has thrown a large splint below the knee. I was intending to show him, so I need to try my best to reduce it. I would appreciate hearing the experiences of what has worked for people.
Thanks

Splints are picked up on by vets - showing etc.
They can cause lameness while forming , but after they rarely cause problems.
The best thing vets give is DMSO but you need to wear gloves for application .
Then wrap the leg to reduce inflammation and heat and reduce the size of splint. Only apply DMSO while the splint is painful.

. Cold hosing can help reduce inflammation
. Bute is usually prescribed
. Reduce workload or box rest
. Kaolin clay over area can help healing

good luck with this.

Hi, I had ice packs and iced the splint everytime I went to yard, reduced his work, didn't school on hard ground or hack as the ground was rock hard, checked hoof balance, applied clay and also had the litttle bugger lasered!! But touch wood it cannot be seen now.
