Hi my horse has the biggest splints ever but unfortunately splintex never worked for either of them. I also tried magnetic boots, dmso gel etc. Just had to give them time to settle, is your horse sound??
I did when my horse h`ad a huge splint last year and was very lame - it made it worse! Then tried comfrey ointment recommended by the osteopath and he was sound in 2 weeks (after 4 months lame!). was alot cheaper too!
My horse was never lame with it, she knocked herself in the stable and there was a bit of heat and swelling so she was turned away for a few weeks to let the splint settle. It's hardened up now and she's back in work. It's not very big, it just looks a bit unsightly. I'm not really worried about it but someone suggested splintex so was just wondering if it's worth giving it a go as I may show her in the future.
I used it on my boys massive splint, which had been there about 4/5 months:
After the 3rd pic I stopped using it and its remained the same. I think it worked as it definately has gone down as you can see. I had used Magnetic boots sometimes as well though.
Thats great how much it has reduced. I must say that they do reduce in time anyway so weather it was the splintex or not, who knows. My horses biggest splint is about 6 times the size of your first picture!!
I'm just about to finish a bottle of Splintex gold. No difference to the splint (maybe slightly smaller if I am feeling positive). I'm trying to decide whether it is worth getting another bottle and keeping going. They say it can take over 60 days to work.....I think I've been using it for around 40 days now (dropped the bottle and spilt some of the stinking stuff which is why I'm running out).
Just found this old thread- just wanted to resurrect it as I was wondering if splintex works or not. Bone Radiol seems to have reduce my boy's but it seems to have plateaud now.
