One of my horses developed a bony lump on the inside of one of his hind legs, well below the hock, when he banged himself at XC practice (old boots not high enough!!). Someone has suggested Splintex to try to decrease the enlargement. Has anyone any experience of this or any other suggestions for reducing the lump (it has never caused any problems but doesnt look nice!)

Used splintex gold on a very large splint - marginal results, who knows, maybe I'd have had as much luck with water... but maybe it wouldn't have changed at all without...

Anythings worth a try... but a formed splint is a calcification on the splint bone so it will never 'go away' so to speak... let me know if it works as I have a mare on 4 weeks box rest to help prevent the calcification of a splint from taking place!

My YO is using Splintex on her pony at the mo as he has thrown a splint havent seen any difference yet and you have to be careful as it can blister the skin.

You name it, i have tried it. My horse has two splints, the biggest is the size of a golf ball times two in length. Nothing has worked and it has cost me an absolute fortune. I think the best thing is to leave well alone, they do get smaller in time but you must be patient, some are way over a year old before they start to remodel. Good luck
