Splints help!

Sorry if this is supposed to be in vets section but there were more people in here!

I am looking at buying a 5yr old which looks to have a splint on the inside of his near fore. Now i dont know masses about these and wondered if

a) they would affect the vetting.
b) cause any long term issues i.e. lameness, arthritis etc.

I am having a 5 stage vetting this week and wondering if it will be something to worry about!!

As long as its sound it wont affect the vetting. The vet will note it on the vetting certificate, but he wont fail for it.

It shouldnt cause any long term issues, Id say at least 25% horses have one or have had one. And only a very small percentage are ever a problem!

As long as it's not very near the knee joint and the horse is sound it's unlikely to affect anything. Horses with one splint are more prone to developing others, so that's something you might want to consider (horses can go lame while they're forming), but having had several horses with splints it wouldn't worry me a bit.
 
It would'nt worry me but if I wanted to show the horse then it will be marked down for it. If the horse is young the splint can go. I have had several ponies with splints and they have dissapeard..
