How can I recognise one forming?
What should I do about it?
Will they need time off work?
Do they need looked at by a vet?
Is there a max. age they can develop at?

Thanks guys!

I'm not sure but to me splints can vary a lot.

Sometimes you don't notice until they have formed and the horse is not always lame. I've known horses that needed time off as they were lame but also my current youngster has enormous splints on his back legs and hasn't been lame (yet). Although he did have back problems around this time, which I think was probably related.

I would suggest that you have a vet look at them just in case it is affecting the joints or if there is a low grade lameness that is difficult to spot.

Ugh, turns out my boy is throwing one up. And of course, he's lame probably (and I hope) because of it. So there's 3 events we'll be missing!
