Arrghh I think Felix might be throwing a splint!!

No previous lameness heat or swelling but after we returned from XC schooling yeasterday I noticed a small hard lump in the inside of his front let just below the knee.

Looks very much like a splint, he was wearing boots but as he is a baby was a little extravagant in his jumping with front feet high in the air.... so I am hoping he may have just caught himself, but even so it is still in the splint area!!

He isn't sore on it and its not hot but I hosed it when we got back anyway then put som tensolvet (Sp?) on it.

Any other tips for helping it disapear quickly?
Should I ride gently or just turn out and rest him or box rest?
If box rest how long?
My vet book (The big fat one everyone has!!) said you get heat then swelling then lameness or tenderness then the boney lump and to box rest for at least 6 weeks!!

I really need it to go as I was hoping to take him to stallion grading in the autumn and I am very sure they wont like splints!!

My mare got a splint last spring, thankfully she didint go lame on it and I could ride her nornmally. I used NEW magnetic brushing boots while hacking and for a couple of hours at a time in the stable and it shrunk a good bit. Also used to know a girl that swore by putting DMSO on splints but dont have any experience of this myself.

My welsh got a splint which I didn't notice as she wasn't lame and it was covered in feather. By the time I found it it was about the size of half a golf ball so quite large. I used Radiol B-R Bone Embrocation which seemed to reduce it slightly and kind of smoothed it out a bit so it wasn't as notceable. It might be worth a look.

some horses don't seem to get any pain so you can continue working them, though i may be a bit gentle for a week or so. splints, as all bones do, carry on remodelling for years and many will gradually go though some will always be noticeable but cause no problem unless very close to, and interfere with the knee
