split coranet band

when getting my tb in i noticed he had blood down his hoof. on closer inspection he has split his coranet band, its about 1cm long. its hard to explain what it looks like but the top of the coranet band has split away from the hair. i could put my nail in the split, it just seems to have separated. its clean and not a wide/deep wound but im not really sure wether it needs dressing to stop dirt getting in or whether to leave it and just clean it and put some intracite gel on it. i tried ringing my vet to ask but he is away untill 2moro. he is not lame, no swelling or heat and just blood had come out, no puss. never really seen this sort of thing. he has done it pratting around with the fence. bless him!

My old horse did something similar and yes, I had vet out and it was bandaged. He separated his coronet from his hoof capsule . No long lasting effect, apart from a scar down his hoof, not on his flesh.
He was also given Anti B's as it is an area ripe to pick up an infection.

Thank you for that. My YO is going to take a look in the morn. It almost looks like it has burst clean open, there is no grazes or cuts around it, not even ruffled hair. very strange. i just hope it doesnt split even more. i will syringe clean it in the morn and dress it, he isnt out on mud but pea gravel.
