I had a hunter Trial on sunday, and at the end I noticed that my horse had a split in the corner of his mouth which was bleeding. He had yesterday off, and will probably have today off- but tomorrow I have a dressage and showjumping competition, and then on saturday I have a xc rally. I'm worried the split will open up again, it still looks quite sore at the moment, but I don't know if I should pull out of wednesday so he'll be fine for saturday... or if i go tomorrow, it might make it worse so i can't do sat? Is there anything I can put on it? Thanks!

(His Xc bit is a waterford, but dressage and sj are just snaffles if that makes a difference!) \

I've used Iglu mouth ulcer cream for split mouths, you can get it from your local chemist, works brilliantly.
I tend not to use vaseline as i think it softens the mouth and makes it more susceptable to rubbing then, thats my thoughts anyway.
Are your snaffles loosering?sometimes they can pinch so maybe for the sj you could put some bit gaurds on.

I know it is annoying but don't be afraid to pull out on the day. Much better to wait now than have greater problems later. Hope it heals quickly!
